Is there a way to play my guitar through my surround sound DVD player?

I have a really nice seven string guitar but the low end is just too much for my little practice amp to handle, I was wondering if there is maybe a way I could use my amp cable and splice it into a audio cable(the red and yellow) so that I could play my guitar through my surround sound system for a louder, better quality sound. Detail would be appreciated.
